Hi, I'm Leanna...
Surface design came into my life quietly.
Not as part of a grand plan, and not with a background in the industry — but as something I felt instinctively drawn towards. I’ve always built creative work from the ground up, and after more than twenty years running my own business, I recognised that familiar pull again: the mix of curiosity, challenge and possibility that signals something worth pursuing.
Today, I work from my home studio, where sketchbooks sit in small stacks and morning light falls across the desk before the kettle has quite finished boiling. Most designs begin in pencil, on paper, before moving into digital — a process that allows the work to feel considered rather than hurried.
I’m drawn to the balance surface design offers — creativity and practicality sitting side by side. Pattern has to feel beautiful, but it also has to work. It needs to repeat well, sit comfortably on fabric, and belong in real spaces.
My designs lean slightly retro, warm and welcoming. You’ll often find florals with softened edges, conversational elements tucked into repeats, and colour palettes that feel settled rather than shouty. I create prints with everyday living in mind — fabrics that become part of a home’s rhythm, whether through soft furnishings, apparel, accessories, or thoughtfully made products.
While surface design is a newer chapter, I’m not new to building creative businesses. For over two decades I’ve developed products, managed production, and worked closely with customers and collaborators. That experience shapes how I approach pattern now. I understand timelines, practicalities, and the importance of designing with the end use in view.
At heart, I believe colour and pattern quietly influence how a space feels. A well-chosen print can soften a room, add warmth to daily rituals, or bring personality to everyday objects without overwhelming them.
My aim is simple: to create thoughtful, well-crafted designs that feel at home in lived-in spaces.
